This first project is all about me. As I dived into this portrait project I had to evaluate what was either important to me or has greatly impacted me in the last few years. I (unfortunately) landed on math, my major. Something that I hate and love equally, I have found math to be my biggest challenge here at Davidson. It has pushed me more mentally than anything else. So I decided to compile all my thoughts and feelings on the matter into one piece, purposefully composing it to represent the whirlwind it is like to be in my head when I attempt to solve a problem. This first photo is a general idea of what I was thinking. I created 10 different sketches, and in the end, I ended up combining the first two sketches here.

Taking those ideas, I began my piece. I wanted fun, bright colors to contrast the darker ideas in the background. Thus, I started with a fluid, bright background. For the person, I took a photo of myself and used my iPad to sketch the outline and fill it in.

This was my first digital art piece, starting with 10 thumbnails. I then chose my favorite and began learning how to create that in Illustrator and Adobe Fresco. I learned how to trace a photo, which I did to get my figure, then filled in the figure and added shading. Finally, I did a basic watercolor background and did layers of words and mathematical symbols to create that drifting, chaotic feeling to the piece.
